Running XP Home SP2
I have Automatic Updates set to download and install but it seems I still
find the yellow shield in the systray and have to click install.
Occasionally, I get a shield on the turn off button to install on turn off.
Never saw that until a week ago.

The big problem is two updates that have downloaded: KB920907 Outlook 2003
Junk Mail Filter and KB921566 Security Update for Office 2003. I click to
install and the installation fails. The message is Updates were unable to be
installed sucessfully. Also have the icon on the turn off button. I turn the
machine off and get the warning not to unplug it as two updates are being
installed but they never get installed

Is there a way to delete the downloaded (but not installed) update then
download and install?

Thanks in advance

Harmon

I am having the same problem with the same updates on the same day!
I have put in a request for help.
Have any of your drive letter assignments changed recently? My failure
messege refers to a missing "Drive F:". A cdrom I no longer have.

No drive changes for me. I'll keep plugging away. Maybe one of us will get
it fixed and can post back

I have the same problem. Its very annoying that the automatic update keeps
failing and keeps trying to down load the same update.

Success! On the advice of Microsoft Tech support, I downloaded the updates
manually to my hard drive and installed 1566 first. It required (asked for)
my Office 2003 CD to either add or replace a file (my apologies .....I should
have written down the name of the file that was a problem.)

Once 1566 installed, the other two updates installed without problem.

Here are the Update sites:

Security Update for Office 2003 (KB921566)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Update for InfoPath 2003 (KB920103)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB920907)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Q.E.D.

I eventually solved my problem using a suggestion from the email microsoft
update service center.
"At the same time, I suggest we refer to the following article for more
information:
you cannot install an Office 2003 service pack
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884298"
and using regedit to add paths "\D:" to professional office and frontpage
source using the instructions contained in that document.

By the way, I first tried installing office again but it didnt fix the
problem in the registry.
