Updates on one server fail

I manage several Windows 2003 (SE) Server, however, one of them cannot
perform Automatic Updates. Infact, even if I download the update and install
it myself, it fails, returning a "the data is invalid" error. I researched
this eror and found out it has to do with missing files. I ran Filemon and
Regmon (from sysinternals.com) and found numerous "File Not Found" errors.
Some of the files being referenced are not even MS files. Below is an excerpt
from the Event Log.

Any help would be much appreciated.

------------------------
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update.
- Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB837001)
- Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB833987)

David,

You should use FileMon's Input filter to restrict the output to something
useful.

Your previous post indicates that you are still using WUV4.
I only started using FileMon to monitor the SoftwareDistribution
directory where WUV5 writes its files but I would guess that you
could get similar information by using an analogous input filter
of CatRoot with WUV4.

Are all your other machines still using WUV4 instead of WUV5?
Inspite of what you may see here about WUV4 being preferable
I think that WUV5 has its advantages. It certainly gives you more
to work with when things go wrong for example. If you find that some
of your other machines have been updated successfully with WUV5
I suggest you try converting this one too. Who knows you might not
even have to do any more troubleshooting for it.

Good luck

Would you (or someone) PLEASE send me the 'captured'
fileset for "WUV5" ? I can't convince the windowsupdate
site that I'm using XP Pro even though I KNOW that I am.

If (SOMEONE) would just send me the active-x control (inf
file?) so that I can 'manually' install this beast, then
I;d have my update problem solved! ;-(
