My Microsoft updates, after being downloaded, are going in my Add/ Remove
program. Is this where they are supposed to be going? My Add/ Remove
program is filling up.

There's no such beast as "Add/Remove Programs filling up".

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.

Joan;
Not all of them, only the ones with an uninstall option.
There is no problem with Add/Remove Programs "filling up".

But you can safely remove the entries and delete the uninstall files:

If I wanted to back those up to a cd, where would I find them on my hard drive?

The installed updates can not be saved for reuse.
However you can download from the Windows Update Catalog and burn to CD fro
future use, #1 on this link:

Shenan:

If I am responsible for my problems and shouldn't bother coming to this or
any NG, by doing my own research,
then why are you even here?

Harry.

Please do not misquote/partially quote me.

The signature is to be taken as a whole or it would have been split up into
multiple parts, not a complete paragraph representing cohesiveness.
Essentially it says: Although someone gives you advice, it is up to you to
verify the advice and follow it with the necessary precautions and knowledge
needed - anything less would be foolish.

Most people benefit from an initial kick in the right direction.

I can provide the initial proper answer, additional information to prevent
the problem from re-occurring and point out how the OP can/could have gotten
this information themselves.. In the future, they may be able to do so more
readily. There will always be a need for asking of questions, but if all
the asker gets out of it is rote memorization, then the advice was not
learned, just followed and the true benefit missed.

Basic Underlying Principle:

Give a person a fish, feed them for a day.
Teach a person to fish, feed them for a lifetime.

"webster72n",

"Shenan Stanley" and all of the other volunteers and MVPs who answer
questions are really trying to do their very best. They do not get paid for
this, though there are some great benefits in becoming an MVP. Shenan was
simply taking the extra step of warning you of several ultimate truths about
computer software:
1) The "fix" has a significant chance of helping you, depending on the fix.
This chance should be viewed as anything from 10% to 98% effective.
2) The "fix" might actually break your system, again depending on the fix.
This chance should be viewed as low, say 2% to 40%.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]
