Updates stalling in the middle of installing.

Hello. This is my first time posting here. I use a laptop computer with
Office 2003 and Windows XP (I'm not sure if it's Home or Pro). I have a major
problem with Microsoft Update right now. I'm trying to download and install
the following updates:

Windows XP:
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB921883)
- Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - August 2006 (KB890830)
- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB918899)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB917422)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB920670)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB920683)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB921398)
- Security Update for Windows XP (KB922616)
- Security Update for Outlook Express for Windows XP (KB920214)

Office XP 2003:
- Update for InfoPath 2003 (KB920103)
- Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB920907)
- Security Update for Office 2003 (KB921566)

Windows Update tells me that I have already downloaded these files and I am
ready to install them. However, when I attempt to install, the updates stop
in the middle of installing, and do not continue, even after several hours.
Also, whenever I attempt to shut down or restart my laptop computer, the
screen tells me that I have 1 of 1 or 1 of 2 updates to install. Then, it
stalls, and the computer will not turn off until I let the battery drain away.

Any help towards fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. I don't
know what to do.

Open the WindowsUpdate.log located in the WINDOWS directory (folder).
The most recent entries are towards the bottom.
Copy and paste either the last 20 - 30 lines of the log into your reply
or locate the section nearest the bottom that contains an error code(s)
and post that section. The error codes will be in the same format of the
sample below :

First off, show hidden files, folders, and system files :

Next, take a look at this MSKB article :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281967

Ensure that there are not 1,000's of 0 byte OEM *.inf files in the
WINDOWS\inf folder as described in the article.
If they are not present, then look in the WindowsUpdate.log prior to
2006-08-16 for *error codes*.
Post back with the *section* of the log that contains such codes.
