updates stop Windows 2000 machine from starting up properly

We updated a Windows 2000 machine with 4 Microsoft hot fixes (893066, 890859,
893086, 890923) and now the PC won't boot properly. It will boot into safe
mode only.

The event viewer indicates "Driver detected device \Device\Hardisk1\DR1 has
write cache enabled. Data corruption may occur." Apparently that has
happened since the PC won't boot properly. We uninstalled the 4 hot fixes
while in safe mode and it made no difference.

After booting to safe mode and looking at the event viewer there are service
control manager errors including this one:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

BANTExt
CLNTMGMT
Cpqp6cpu
js1284
jsscan
MRxSmb
NetBIOS
NetBT
RasAcd
Rdbss
Tcpip
vsdatant

Some of the other errors in the event viewer:

The CPQDMI service depends on the Win32sl service which failed to start
because of the following error: no attempts to start the service have bee
nade since the last boot.

There are several notations that a device attached to the system is not
functioning and that's why things like Messenger service haven't been started.

Help!

"slltwo",

I'm sorry you are encountering this issue. Please try clean booting this
