Updates want to be reinstalled multiple times

I recently reinstalled XP Pro after my hard drive crashed. After installing
all the updates, the following 3 updates keep comming back to be installed
and will not go away after I have reinstalled them many times.

KB931784, KB900485, KB920872

How do I get this to stop. It is blocking other updates from being installed.

Thanks,
Bob

The fix for the first of these (and try it with the others as well) is to
download the updates from their KB pages to a known folder on the hard disk.
Then open a Windows Command Prompt window (cmd.exe), navigate to the known
folder by use of the "cd" command, then execute the update from the command
prompt with the addition of parameter "/o". For example:

WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU /o

Curious - it shouldn't be doing that.

Robin,

That worked for KB900485 but not the other 2. I had to run the install
twice. The second time it did not ask for a reboot on either of them. I
still get an automatic update for the other 2 after the reboot.

It appears it is blocking other updates from being sent to the notification
window because I went to MS Update and there were a bunch of updates that I
needed.

Thanks for the feedback.

Could you try the manual installation of the 2 recalcitrant updates again in
Safe Mode, again with the added "/o" parameter.

If they still fail, could you post the contents of
C:\WINDOWS\KB931784.log
C:\WINDOWS\KB920872.log
so that maybe we can figure out what is going wrong.

Robin,

I did not get to try your suggestion for a few days, but the update shield
is now gone and has not come back, so I guess it took a day or so for it to
clear.

Thanks.

Where do I post problems with my .NET login and email verification?

Thanks,

Bob
