All updates for Win XP Pro (various types of updates) have failed for the
past week. I have disabled antivirus, pop-up blockers, anti-spam, firewalls,
etc., as recommended elsewhere in this group. No help. I have gone into
Windows Update and looked at my history, and followed instructions to click
on the "Red X" for instructions on dealing with failed updates ... but
nothing happens upon clicking. My computer is running normally in all other
respects. Any thoughts?

These web pages did not help. I did reset Background Intelligent Transfer
Service to automatic but it had no effect. The article 822798 did not have
any relevant information, at least not that I could discern. The 906602
article asks about error messages, but I do not receive any error messages.

Disable any third-party pop-up blockers that you might have.
Google toolbar perhaps?

I am having the same problem for about a week, I tried a million
different things I found online - uninstalled installer 3.1 and
reinstalling, de-registering DLLs, and a bunch of other things but
nothing works - all updates are being downloaded ok but they all fail
to install.

Any help?

With what error code? Click the red cross in Update History.

I have had similar problems.

I am not a great technofreak, but I get the feeling that anything I do will
not cure the problem.

I am surprised that Microsoft are not being more communicative about an
issue which seems to be a fairly widespread problem.

I run windows 2000.
