updates were unable to be sucessfully installed

Hi,

Using Win 2000 MS Update the web page (http://update.microsoft.com) said
there were 2 High-priority updates for Microsoft Windows 2000:

Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB913580)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - May 2006 (KB890830)

When I installed them they downloaded fine but did not install. I rebooted
and tried again, same problem. So I tried the 'Security Update for Windows
2000 (KB913580)' on it's own since that's the important one, again it
failed to install. BTW the error message it gives is:

"Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.

The troubleshooter was no help.

Hi,
I have the same problem with KB819696 - the only difference
is, that there is no error message. I installed it already
a dozen of times - without effort.
