Is there something wrong with the Updates or WGA Auth servers, because I have
not been able to get any windows updates on my fresh install of windows since
Sunday!

Any explaination is much appreciated!

I have exactly the same problem, cannot validate and therefore cannot use
Windows Update. Auto downloads OK.

Fresh install of XP SP2 yesterday,

Spoke to Microsoft today for about an hour and problem still not resolved.

Problem Solved.
2 registry keys need changing,

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl.Legit Check
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl. Legit Check. 1

Give permission to user having problem. All validation and Windows Update
problems gone.

All I did was right click the keys and click on "permissions" and give "full
control" to the user having a problem. In fact, I did it for all the listed
users. How the permissions got changed, who knows?

Try this.
Download Windows Hotfix KB905474 - Windows Genuine Advantage Notification -
from the usoft website. Install manually, before trying to do ANY updates.
Then updates will work o.k. No need to edit the registry!
