Windows update states there are two updates for my Win98 systems. I
prefer to download the updates for a later install rather than
immediately. The two updates are for Directx and Internet Explorer.
Where are they located so that I can download them?

At the V4 Windows Catalog
(http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp). Pick MS
Windows updates, select 98/98SE from the OS scroll list, and then click
the Advanced Search option; select "Past week" and then click the Search
button. You will see 3 Critical updates returned: the IE update
(KB896688), and two for KB904706 depending on whether you have DirectX 8
or version 9 installed.

Most current Critical Security Updates for Win9x are /only/ available via
Windows Update, Don:

<QP>
Are Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition
critically affected by one or more of the vulnerabilities that are addressed
in this security bulletin?

Yes. Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition
are critically affected by the vulnerabilities that are addressed in this
security bulletin. Critical security updates for these platforms are
available, are provided as part of this security bulletin, and can be
downloaded only from the Microsoft Update Web site or from the Windows
Update Web site.
