UPDATES for Windows XP unsuccessful, why?

I have been trying over the last 3 days to install updates which my system
tells me to install.

Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB905756)
Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB913161)
Update for Outlook 2003 (KB913807)

They seem to download fine,start installing too but at the end it says the
updates were unsuccessful.

I have never had this before in years of working with XP. I have checked 3
different ways for viruses (none) and just wonder what this could be
