Updating DirectX (webinstaller)

Hi there,

I don't know if it's a temporary problem from Microsoft servers, but I've
tried many times to update my DirectX (with the newest webinstaller from
Microsoft) and I get always a error message: The files could not be
downloaded. Try again later or test if your network connection is correct.

Is someone having the same problem? Solutions?

Thanks!

Vista comes with the latest iteration of directx. If any updates become
available they will be available through the Vista Windows Update service. I
have not seen any updates for Vista as of yet.

Get the Directx Redist Package:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Oh, and it's not true, that Vista doesn't need this. Many games won't
work without it, because Vista doesn't has some of the newer DX9
"optional" components (that many games require).

I assume you are trying the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en ,
and it's not working. Try the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2007),
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en .
which is a download for the whole ball of wax. Note that the versions are
the same. The installer won't need to access the web for the files you
need, but will have all of them on your hard drive for its disposal. For
Vista, this will update the bi-monthly D3DX, XInput, and Managed DirectX
components. The Runtime download won't change the core DirectX components,
such as Direct3D, DirectInput, or DirectSound, since it's not possible to
downgrade DirectX.

Many components of DirectX are not included with Vista, and are not
avaliable from Windows Update (for example, the managed extensions to
DirectX - why Microsoft included the .NET framework and DirectX but
didn't include the tiny files needed to get them to work together, I
have no idea).

To the OP: Try downloading the whole re-distributable (as opposed to the
web-based one). It's large, but then it doesn't need to connect to the
internet to download components, so that should solve your problem.

Ok, I'll do it, thanks for the info! :-D

but it's strange cause webinstaller is from 7/5/2007 and the "ball of wax"
from
6/26/2007, so there are new stuff on webinstaller that are not on the ball
of wax, isn't it? :-)

Note that the versions are the same (9.19.1007). The Web Installer installs
the latest End-User Runtime, which is released every two months. The Web
Installer can't install anything beyond that. The latest is the June 2007
release (as opposed to, say, the previous April 2007 release, which is
version 9.18.944).
