While the evidence is anecdotal, we are seeing a lot of issues with Vista
and games. Most of what I've seen has been with people who upgraded to
Vista so some of the issue may have something to do with older hardware.
Nonetheless, it is something you should factor in to your thinking.
You haven't given us any specs, processor, memory, hard drive capacity,
whether or not your laptop is sharing graphics memory with main system
memory and this information is necessary if we are to give you a fair
analysis. It would appear you are very tight for space on your hard drive.
Regardless of what the upgrade advisor told you, you need to realize, that
is only a guide. You should check out manufacturer websites for all your
hardware, both internal and external to see if they have Vista compatible
drivers for all your hardware or if they are even supporting your hardware
in Vista. You should do the same with your software, check application
websites for compatibility of your software versions with Vista and/or if
the developer is even supporting the app in Vista.
Vista is not trialware but you do have certain rights of return within the
first 30 days. How that is covered may vary by retailer and you may need to
go to Microsoft directly. You can find out more about that at the following
