Upgrade from any Vista disc?

I just bought a new HP computer preloaded with Vista Home Premium? I need to
upgrade to Ultimate and went thru Microsoft Anytime Upgrade online. My
computer came with no discs, so I had to order the upgrade disc during the
online process and it was to be mailed USPS...I'm still waiting after 5 days
and read horror stories on blogs that some waited months and some never got
the disc. I am in a hurry because some of my business software won't run on
less than Ultimate.

My purchased upgrade license is waiting in my digital locker, but I have no
disc. Does anyone know if there is a retail place where you can get the
Anytime Upgrade disc?

If I can get hold of someone else's Vista disc, can I use that to do the
upgrade after downloading my license from the locker? Does the disc have to
be specific (Home Premium to Ultimate) or are all versions of Vista contained
on all discs?

The "Anytime Upgrade" disc is nothing more than a rebranded Vista
installation disc. If you can get someone else's Vista install disc, it
should work perfectly with your license upgrade key...and no, the disc
doesn't nave to be specifically for Home Premium. All versions of Vista
use the same disc for installation, the license key that you enter
determines the version that the DVD will install.

Thanks. I think I can get someone's disc tomorrow and I'll give it a try and
post whether it worked.

So, it won't matter if the disc I use is a full version of say, Home Basic?
It will have the stuff to do an upgrade of Home Premium to Ultimate?

Absolutely...every version of Vista is on a Vista install disc, no
matter what the disc label indicates. The product key that you key in,
when prompted, determines which version will be installed.

You can even install any version of Vista onto your system, from any
Vista install disc, by not keying in a product key when prompted. The
Vista installer will then display a list of the Vista versions on the
disc, and you'll be asked to select which one that you purchased. It's
an interesting way to compare the different versions of Vista firsthand,
though the install will expire after 30 days unless a valid product key
for that version is eventually keyed in.

uuuh ... I think the 64-bit Vista versions are on a different disk.

Or, at least, the 64-bit versions aren't on the eMachines Vista install.
(and yes, this is a Vista install disk, not a restore/recovery disk. I was
surprised.)

We're not talking about 64 bit/32 bit in this case...we're talking about
Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, etc...and, of course, you do need a
separate disc for 64 bit. However, for this particular topic, that is
totally irrelevant. The poster who started the thread wants to upgrade
his copy of Vista from Premium to Ultimate, and he wants to know if the
"Anytime Upgrade" process can be done by using a friend's copy of the
Vista install disc, instead of waiting to get a Microsoft "Anytime
Upgrade" disc.
