Here's the problem.
I have an excel file stored on a central server for users to access, it
is not shared but I want when this file is open other user should have
'Read Only' access to this file. However, when this file is open some
users have the 'Read Only' access while some users are getting the
following error:

'The (filename.xls) could not be found. Check the spelling of the file
name, verify that the file location is correct.
If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used
file on the file Menu, make sure that the file has not benn renamed,
moved, or deleted.'

NB: this file was not rename, moved or deleted.

I tried installing updates on these PCs that were experiencing this
error, but no solution.

The only difference between the systems that are able to access this
excel file and those that cannot are the version of excels. So I am
assuming this is the cause of the error.

Advise please?

Thanks

Suggest you post to a more suitable forum than the Windows Update
