upgrade install issues

Am trying to do a upgrade install from Vista Home Premium to Windows7
Ultimate. I downloaded Windows7 Upgrade Advisor Beta and ran it with no
issues flagged. Went on to do the install but get stopped by this;
Upgrading Windows will affect the following devices and/or programs:

These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. Before
upgrading, we recommend updating the drivers for these devices. Cancel the
upgrade, open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers", or go to
the device manufacturer's website to search for updated drivers.

o Universal Serial Bus controllers: Sony Ericsson Device 115
o Modems: Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC Data Modem
o Modems: Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC Modem
o Ports (COM & LPT): Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC OBEX
Interface (COM6)
o Ports (COM & LPT): Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC Device
Management (COM7)

This was all part of a Sony Ericsson PC Suite install which I have
uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller. Using regedit and entering Sony Ericsson
Device 115 as a search brings me to a key named
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\USB\V id_0fce&Pid_d016&Mi_01\359302008638261_0_01
which I am unable to delete, error while deleting key message always comes
up.
Am I being dumb !! all I want to do is go through the registry, search

Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC Data Modem
Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC Modem
Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC OBEX Interface (COM6)
Sony Ericsson Device 115 USB WMC Device Management (COM7)

delete the entries and do the upgrade install..

Try taking ownership of the key and giving yourself full control:

In Regedit right-click the key and select 'Permissions'.
Click on the 'Advanced' button and then the 'Owner' tab.
Under 'Change owner to:' select your name and 'Apply' and 'Ok'.
Select 'Owners rights' and put a tick in the Allow full control box.
Ok out.
If it has worked you should now be able to delete.

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply, have tried to take ownership but am not being
allowed.. the key is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\V id_0fce&Pid_d016&Mi_03\359302008638261_0_03
I'm guessing that the issue is that it is under "System" and there is some
form of protection involved, have you or anyone else other ideas?

I have a couple of empty keys in HKLM\system\controlset001\enum\usb which give me this
error when I try to delete one:
" Cannot delete VID_14DD&PID_1005: error while deleting key. "

So I right-click that key and select 'Permissions'.
Then I click on the 'Advanced' button.
Then I select the 'Owner' tab.
The current owner is Administrators.
Underneath it says ' Change owner to:'.
I click on my name (Admin) and click on 'Apply' and 'OK'.
I then click on 'Owner rights' in the top pane and put a tick in 'Allow ' Full Control and OK out.
Now when I select delete it gets deleted.

If your keys have sub-keys maybe they need to be dealt with first.

If the above doesn't work for you then another way would be to boot from a BartPE type
boot disk and edit the registry with that.
If you don't have a boot disk I can give you a link if you want to download my iso image.

Check my original post to see why Windows7 requires there deletion, I
promise you I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't need to !!!

Windows 7 doesn't NEED their deletion - all it said was "these devices MIGHT
not work".
Why not do the upgrade and SEE if they work......

It does need their deletion. The upgrade will not continue without it being
done.
