My daughter has a desktop PC with XP Pro' (SP1)installed, but was given to
her with no DISC or authentication and she wishes to upgrade to SP2 without
losing any data on the PC. How may she do this please.?

TIA

First I would call the store where you bought the desktop and demand an
XP CD. Next, I would back up everything before installing SP2. Then,
make sure that only the monitor, keyboard and mouse are connected and no
scanners, printers, external modems, cameras, etc. are connected. Then
do a clean up, chkdsk and defrag. Then install SP2, making sure that
your anti virus auto scan is disabled. After you're done, reboot and do
a clean up, chkdsk and defrag.
