Purchase a "Retail Upgrade Version" of Windows XP Professional,
insert the CD in the CD Drive and select "Upgrade".

I bought a DELL that was supposed to have an OEM edition of XP Professional
pre installed. I was not ready to upgrade to XP at the time. Dell
pre-installed a copy of 2000 professional at my request. They gave me a valid
copy CD OEM of XP professional. Is there any way I can upgrade my Windows
2000 Professional system now to XP Professional, with out wiping out my
machine? I tried and the OEM XP disk didn't offer an upgrade option

Hi Bob,

If you use the OEM winxp media, it will wipe the machine.

Without having access to winxp media to install, there is no way to upgrade.
At this time, you will have to purchase a copy of winxp if you want to
upgrade and keep your information that you already have on your computer.
