Upgrade from XP - Advice needed, please

My 80GB hard drive on my PC is almost full and I wish to upgrade to Vista
Home Premium.
Upgrade advisor advises that I need more disk space but my mother board does
not have a slot to accommodate another drive, so I purchases an 350GB
Verbatim USB powered external hard drive onto which I wish to move "my
documents" (40GB), including "my pictures", and install Vista Home Premium
on my PC's hard drive.
My reasoning for this configuration is that I have a laptop with Vista Home
Premium and wish to synchronise the docs and pics on the external hard drive
with my Verbatim's docs and pics.
Any advice or suitable links will be appreciated.

Sounds as if you've got it all figured out. Go for it!

You can do that without upgrading anyway.
Unless there is a really compelling reason to upgrade, DON'T!
You can suffer the slings and arrows of Vista soon enough when you get a new
machine.

What you suggest sounds OK, but let me mention one thing: Motherboards
don't have anything like a "slot" to accommodate a drive. The drive
fits into available space within the case, and then connects to the
motherboard via a data cable and to the power supply via a power
cable. So what is the restriction that you think prevents you from
installing another internal drive? There may be an easy solution to
the problem.

So what you are saying is that you have no clue how to use Vista?

Upgrading from XP to Vista on an old XP machine may cause you more problems
than you have the time or expertise to deal with. Vista OS is superior to XP
OS but I recommend that you purchase a laptop or desktop that was designed
for Vista and has Vista installed.

You fat lying stupid piece of useless google jockey ****! Obviously,
you've never, ever booted up Windows 7. You may have seen screen shots
but that's all.
Vista is currently the very best OS available today. Windows 7 is being
built on Vista. If you don't like or can't figure out Vista then forget
Windows 7...you'll be completely lost!...LOL!
