Upgraded my CPU now Vista hates me!

So I went from a dual core e6600 to a quad core q6600. Install was a breeze.
Windows installs new CPU and we are cooking...or not.

Now I get this error that says DIGITAL CABLE DEVICE REGISTRATION APPLICATION
stopped working.

It keeps popping up. Then a window about media shraing service is stopping
comes up.

WMC and WMP will not work. I get errors that they are closing. Every other
program on my PC seems to work like a charm. Far as I can this has soemthing
to do with some kind of DRM and vista doesnt think I am still me because of
the new CPU. Any way around this? Can I fix this without blasting a new
install of vista on my PC? Like I said it works perfect except for WMP, WMC,
and any kind of Windows Media Sharing.
Thanks in advance.

SF,

Do a Google search for the following including the quotes....
"DIGITAL CABLE DEVICE REGISTRATION APPLICATION "

Don't know if you will find a solution, but it appears to be something with
your TV Tuner.

Did that. No help. I looked at the log for the errors and they contain a
reference to microsoft individual black box drm. I can't figure out the
error, but ti's there with all of them. Reinstalling Vista appears to be the
only solution but to me that's like killing a fly with a shotgun!

OK. Googled this:

individualized blackbox component upgrade cpu vista

And I got nothing. Just some talk about cracking DRM or something. I don't
want to crack anything. I want to somehow reset this install so that the
blackbox drm recognizes I upgraded the cpu. Everything else on the PC works
flawlessly. It is limited to Media Center, Media Player, and Zune. Get the
same errors.

As always, help is appreciated.

I think what's he's referring to is resetting the DRM cache--
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#indiv
.... that might work. =\

Sorry I didn't have time to read over some of those sites and try to find
you an answer. I provided what to look for in Google and you can take it
from there. Look at the link zachd [MSFT}provided.

SF,

I had the same problem last night and I found a fix online that worked for
me.

Open Windows Explorer and select Organize -->Folder Options.
Then View and deselect "Hide protected operating system files"
Then go to ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/DRM
Blow everything away that is in the folder.
You may then need to setup MCE again...I did not...Everything just started
working.
The only thing I had to do was go get my license info for my purchased music
in Zune.
Remember to go back and reselect the "Hide system files" so that you don't
accidently erase something later.

Hope this helps.
