I would look for some type of restore CD from Toshiba or call them and get
one with Vista on it that will do a fresh install of Vista. Upgrades can be
tricky as you found out.
I would not go back to XP if you don't have to, Vista is much nicer provided
you have at least 1GB of RAM (the year you mentioned to me says your chipset
is current enough).
