Upgrading to IE8

I had yto redo my computer from scratch.

It has IE6, I tried to install IE8, but It says I have to install a program
first, WindowsXP-KB932823-v3-x86-ENU.exe, but when I try to install that, it
says my system is already up to date.

Any ideas?

IE8 installer gives me red X onm "checking with malicious software", and red
X's after that.

You probably need to do all of the Windows Updates first.

Do you have XP service pack 2 or service pack 3?
If you have Service Pack 2, you need to update to Service pack 3.
