Upgrading to ME from 98

I am trying to upgrade an older computer from W 98 to W ME. I have an ME
installation disc but when I try and install I get an error message that says
"the computer already has an operating system ... Need Windows ME upgrade"

Do I need to uninstall W 98 first? If so, how do I do this?

The Windows ME CD may be OEM and thus incapable of upgrading.
If that is the case, you will need to perform a Clean Installation of
Windows ME.
