Hi:
a few days ago i got advice on how to reinstall Microsoft Windows XP home
edition from the CD that came with the computer. the current version on the
PC (which matches what's on the CD) is: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002 Service Pack 1.
i need to reinstall because some files on the PC were corrupted by a virus -
and the printer also stoped working.
as a result, i have come up with following list of items to do:
1) Install Windows XPSP1 from CD (these steps are from the user manual):
a) reinstall from red drivers CD
b) reinstall from blue operating system CD
c) reinstall from red drivers CD (second time)-in the manual the next
step is to install the yellow application CD - since i am
leaving the yellow CD to the end maybe i should no reinsert the red Cd at
this point?
2) installing SP-2 (from MS CD - which i ordered from MS and i hope it
arrives soon)
2.5) install ISP software from the CD here ??? (or as step 5d below?)
3) Install and update antivirus and firewall
a) norton antivirus from CD
b) install Norton update from website
4) install SP-2 updates from MS website
5) install printer drivers from original CD and software
a) printer drivers CD
b) yellow applications CD (anti-virus??? and multi-midea software)
c) Inter Video WIn DVS Surrount Sound Compatible ???
d) ISP software from the CD ???
i am concerned about steps 2.5 which i repeat as step 5d. As a result of
steps 1 and
2, will i lose internet conectivity? so that i will need to reinstall my ISP
software
at step 2.5? or will i even need to reinstall it? step 1a, the red CD,
deletes files, but i hope it only deletes OS files, not applications like ISP
applications
i also wonder why the yellow applications CD (step 5b) that came with the
PC. it mentions anit-virus software on the label.
and will i need and will i need to do step 5c?
thank you for any advice.
