Hi

i need to reinstall Microsoft Windows XP from the CD that came with the
computer when i bought it in 2003. some files got damaged because of a virus
(and the printer stopped working properly at the same time)

the current version on the PC (which matches what's on the CD) is:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1

are these the steps i need to follow?
1) reinstall Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1
from the CD.
2) reinstall the printer drivers from another CD that came with the PC
3)install updates to SP1 from the MS update website
4)do various housekeeping chores (as described here, MS websites, and
the provider of my virus protection software)
5)install MS windows XP SP2
6)install MS windows XP SP2 updates.

can i shorten the todo list if i upgrade to Windows XP Home edition with SP2?
(i.e. this would replace steps 1,3,4,5 - how about step 2?).

as a current owner of an earlier version of windows XP, do i qualify for a
price reduction? i have seen windows XP home edition with SP2 advertised for
$99.

thanks

Install Windows XPSP1 from CD.
Skip step 3 as it is not necessary to install any updates prior to
installing SP-2.
Install and update antivirus and firewall .
Install all remaining Windows Updates
Then after computer is patched and secure install printer drivers, software
etc.
