Upgrading to Vista

I am still on Windows XP Home edition SP2. I have upgraded my hardware to
dual processor on Intel motherboard 945. I have connected to the MS Vista
Upgrade Advisor site and checked on the feasibility of upgrading to Vista
Home Premium. The report has asked me to check on the device drivers for
Creative's SB Live gameport (used by me for connecting my Synthsizer) and HP
Printer/Scanner/Copier 1410 PSC. I have downloaded the device drivers for
both these and saved them.
I have two drives on my system: the primary drive has Windows XP and all the
applications, the secondary drive has all the data.
Can I buy Vista 32-bit as an upgade version and install over Windows XP?
Will I lose any of the data files including my e-mails, Internet favourites,
device driver downloads, MS Office application documents, videos, graphs,
pictures etc if upgrading is carried out on the primary drive?
