And the application vendor compatible package is ?
Fyi...clean installs almost always have less problems than upgrade installs.
The latest version of Windows Installer in Vista can be verified by searching for msiexec.exe, then right click properties\version. The file resides in the system32 folder.

: Has anyone reported any issues with upgrading from Win XP rather than a clean
: install? I think I may run into a problem with Windows Installer. I ran an
: updated installer for Symantec on a test maching running a clean install of
: Vista (same version as my laptop), and it installed the product just fine.
: When I tried to run the installer on my laptop runnig an upgraded version of
: Vista, I keep getting a message about it not being able to open the package
: and to check with the application vendor to verify that it is a Window
: Installer package. The vendor claims that it is, and I have verified
: basically by it installing on the "clean install" machine. I am wondering if
: when I upgraded, Windows Installer did not get upgraded to v.4 and is still
: running at v.3x.
