upgrading win98se to xp

I installed a 40g harddrive to handle xp program,I have
the new and old drives connected to mom,now I can't get
win 98se, even with a startup disk......got any
suggestions?

How are the two drives connected? Master and slave, two masters? Are the
jumpers on the drives set correctly? Did you FDISK and format the new drive?
Are they correctly recognized in the BIOS?
