URGENT: couldn't add contacts--> reinstalled--> NOW I CAN'T LOG IN

Hello,

This is all rather bizarre, about a week and a half ago I finally figured
out why all the friends i've made in the new term never seem to come online.
I clicked on their contacts intending to send offline message (great
function! =)... when it works) it said the contact wasn't on my contact list
and had this link which said "click here to add contact" I clicked, and
nothing happened. same with all other contacts.

Then i tried to log in with webmessenger.msn.com and all my new contacts
were there and apparently, they've all authorized me ages ago and were as
mystified with my online absence as i had been with theirs.

then i returned to my live messenger after confiming that they've all
authorized me and i still can't see my new contacts.

i have since done the following twice:

uninstalled wlm>> reverted to msn 7.5 (all my new contacts available and on
contact list and contactable)>>gave wlm another try (new contacts appear
offline, and when i click them it tells me they aren't on my contact list)>>
reinstalled wlm (still doesn't work)

today i came across the "support" site on microsoft, and followed the
instructions to delete contacts cache folder. I've done all that and now...

MY WLM DOESN"T EVEN SIGN ME IN.
it doesn't even say error, the blue and green msn figures just keep twirling
for ages and nothing happens
i've tried signing in with webmessenger, and everything was fine, I even
went the lengths to uninstall wlm and install 7.5 to check... and it was all
good.
reinstalled wlm (uninstalled 7.5) and now i've been sitting here watching
the figures twirl to no avail.

regarding contacts appearing offline... but since i can't even logon to my
contact list... ... well... obviously i dunno if anything worked.

Greetings Jacque,

In your particular case, deleting your contacts folder will cause this behavior and prevent
you from signing in. If you want a really quick fix, you can upgrade to the latest Windows
Live Messenger beta (which actually works rather well on Windows XP):

Thanks. I have since installed the version you provided, and the contacts
are good now, only thing is messenger hangs whenever i try to type chinese.
Is the newer version incompatible with chinese input? should i revert back to
live msger 8.0?

Your issue sounds very similar to what others have recently been
