urgent - pls help -----Windows XP problem

I have a fairly new Toshiba laptop ..Intel Celeron 1.3GHZ and Windows
XP, HDD 40GB

I am having problems with software all of a sudden.

When I use IE, Mozilla, Yahoo Messenger etc....my screen FREEZES and
say
not responding on the top of the frame of these windows.

I have to wait till it unfreezes itself or kill everything and start
again.

I used Mcafee virus scan, did a Defrag - but stll have these problems.

Can anyone pls help.

try this - go to run file typr in chkdsk c:/r - it will go to a dos screen
and ask if you want to run on restart type y and enter. Restart it will take
approx. 1 hour for it to go through all the checks this may clear it up.
