URLs in HTML email often don't work

Anybody notice how if you put URLs in HTML emails, they don't work? The HTML
code adds a lot of alphanumeric stuff in front of the URL so it can't be
located.

I don't recall this problem prior to Vista Mail. So, if I want to be sure
they'll work I'll have to turn off the HTML. Or, I'll save it as a draft
then see if the URLS work- if they work in the draft folder, they'll usually
work OK.

comments?

Copy & pasting a link in a new message window will not be clickable. It will
be in Drafts and Sent Items once sent. It was like this with all versions of
OE as well.

How are you inserting the URLs, by typing into the standard message
compose window, or in a 'Source Edit' window?

No, I have not noticed that; it does not happen for me. I think you are
assuming something that is not accurate.

So far, no one knows what you are talking about, except me.

It is a quirk with WM and the Drafts folder. A line of code,
similar to this appears in front of a link. Right?
"mhtml:{7249A82F-322D-417F-BE00-E36766CA681F}mid://00000031/!x-usc:"

The only way I can duplicate that is
1) Have an email with a link in the Draft folder.
2) Open that email and copy the link and then close that email.
3) Paste that link into a new email and you get that code.

Only 2 "cures" that I know of (other than text mode).
1) Go into the source code and delete it. (Click the Source
button on the lower left side of the email). If the 3 buttons
are not there, go to View on the email menu. Put a check
next to Source Edit. Buttons should appear.

2) Do not close the email from the draft folder. Leave it open
until you paste the link into another email.

Seems like another 'cure' would be to never copy a link from an email
in the Drafts folder. Somehow in my 24 years of emailing I have
never had a need to do that.

lol

For the sake of this thread, were you able to
duplicate what happens?

the code you refer to below is what ends up hidden behind what looks like
the correct URL

I suspect you're exactly right about how it happens. At first I didn't
realize it because the URL looks correct- but it won' work, and then I
noticed in the lower left that the code was as VistaRookie says.

I often use the draft folder, edit, save it again to the draft folder, copy
stuff from the draft folder, etc- so without realizing it, I suspect that is
the source of the problem because sometimes URLs in html email works fine.

I'm pretty good at nailing down the source of problems but I don't I ever
would have associated it with the draft folder- so good points on that one!
