USB 2.0 port not recognized after SP2

Hi, there. There seems another SP2 related probem. My computer's USB 2.0
ports are always recognized as USB 1.1 port. The following message appears
every time when I plug in my external hard drive:

The USB device can perform faster if you connect a high-speed USB 2.0 port.
For available ports, please click here.

However, I am sure all USB ports are 2.0 version. Is there anything wrong
here? I don't think I have this problem before install SP2.

Did you try loading the latest WinXP device drivers from the mfr's website
in Device Manager?

You mean motherboard driver? Does XP also need motherboard driver? For the
USB port, I think BIOS matters. The BIOS is the latest version.

Device Manager -> Update Driver works.

Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW, I really suspect this is a problem of SP2. In Windows General
Newsgroup, somebody also mentioned the same problem on Aug 17 2004. He also
installed SP2.

Most SP2 problems are due to old drivers or underlying problems in the
existing XP installation that didn't become clear until SP2 was installed.

Well, if the USB 2.0 port doesn't have problem before SP2 installation but
does afterward, I'd rather say it's SP2's problem.

How do operating systems know about hardware? Drivers. :-)

Well, I didn't update the driver through internet. XP just looked up the HD.
So I guess the driver info was lost for some reason. Updating driver simply
finds it again.

BTW, I think XP itself has a lot of built-in drivers, doesn't it?

Anyway, glad to see this problem is solved.

Yep - but one is generally better off getting drivers from the hw mfr.

BTW, I have a non-technical question. What does MVP mean? How can I become a
MVP? MVP must be a MS employer? Thanks.
