USB Connection Issue After Installing Windows Updates

Hello. I just installed 4 critical Windows Updates last night (Wednesday,
December 15th) and they installed fine. I turned off my computer afterwards
and went to bed. Tonight, when I turn my computer on and try to connect my
digital camera to transfer pictures from the Printer Dock (it's a Kodak
DX4530 Camera with printer dock) I get an error that says 'One of the USB
devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not
recognize it.'. So when I go to troubleshoot, it says that the driver is not
installed for the USB device. So, I go to Kodak's website, reinstall the
driver software for the camera and get the same message when I try to connect
it. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem, but mine is with my Samsung Napster MP3 Player
(YP-910). Called Samsung, and they say this is a known problem after users
install Service Pack 2 and we need to wait for a MS fix for it as it is not
Samsung's error.

Anyone heard this or have a fix?

Bumping this to the top - surely someone else has this problem?

Isn't there a moderator on here that can try to help us out?

My problem is similiar. I just purchased a HP PSC 2175 All-in-One and after
installing the software I can copy or print but cannot scan. I get the
"Unexpected Internal Error" every time I try to initiate a scan. I just spent
5 hrs. on line with a HP support person and we tried everything in his bag of
tricks. After all the troubleshooting he says, "Looks like it's a software
conflict and MS is aware of it and it involves SP2".

Do any moderators read these posts? It would be great to see a MS person or
helper respond to this issue - I have read many of the other posts and they
seem to have similar symptoms.

Anyway to get this to the top again?

I agree with Harry
I to have similar problem but only all my digital cameras do not funtion. my
MP3 players do. have tried going back to system restore prior to SP2 download
but it does not work also as others reinstalling drives also does not work.
someone at MS must know how to resolve this or is it the usual we gave it to
you for free so we dont give a damn.

Sorry I can't give you the solution but I did the update and now I have 5 USB
devices that do not work (all with the same failure message). If it helps
anybody from Microsoft that may read these issues, the devices are :-

New Link 4 port USB hub
Fujifilm Finepix camera cradle
Iomega Floppy Plus
Iomega CD RW 52X24X52
LaCie 160Gig external hard disk

Let's hope MS find the solution quickly

Mike & (anybody else who has this problem),

Have now been working on the USB issue for about 3 days and at last, I may
have a solution.

Firstly, it seems the problem is to do with the power required by the USB
device you have plugged into the USB port on your PC.

How did I get my devices to work again?

1) Unplugged all USB devices from USB ports on my PC.

2) Uninstalled all USB devices on my PC through Control
Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager

3) Shut my PC down.

4) Plugged my powered 4 port USB Hub into a USB port on my PC and powered
the 4 port USB Hub up ( I think this is the key - the device you use has to
be powered).

5) Powered the PC up.

6) As you would expect, the PC recognises it has USB ports and reloads the
necessary drivers automatically - but now, the 4 port hub is recognised
properly and any device I plug into the hub (powered or not) is also
recognised and works properly.

It worked for me, hope it works for you guys and have a Happy New Year (in
spite of Microsoft)!!!

Since installing service pack 2, I've been having similar problems with
olympus digital camera - no longer get window opening automatically when I
connect the camera & can't use scanner & camera wizard - doesn't recognise
camera. I can still use the olympus software that came with the camera, but
it is not as easy to use as the wizard. Have used my sister's HP camera with
the wizard succesfully (don't have HP camera software installed on my
computer), but am now having problems with my son's new mini-digital camera.
Installed driver no problem, but won't recognise camera (persistently says
'no camera') so can't upload photos through camera software or wizard.

noticed on another thread that other people having similar problams after
installing new printer/scanners (partic. HP) - I have a new HP all-in-one,
but don't think that coincided with the start of these problems.

I'll try Tony's suggestion (bit complicated for me!), but any other ideas
(or solution from microsoft!) much appreciated.

thanks

Missy_kai,

There is obviously an underlying problem here that Microsoft are not being
open about. Message boards, Chat rooms, Bulletin Boards are littered with
SP2/USB problems and on the face of it Microsoft are keeping very quiet.

The solution for me works but it is not a fix because once the PC is
switched off and back on, the same problem exists so I have to leave my PC on
if I don't want to reload the drivers each time.

I am still looking at the problem and as well as the power issue, it seems
there may be a problem in recognising the USB hardware device and which
driver SP2 should load to run the device.

I guess time will provide an answer.

Best regards,

TonyB
