Yea, see that all the time with people buying hubs that are self powered
but come without the power supply and they don't think ...
That said, if I remember correctly from my own experience at the time, such
a case doesn't provide an error message but rather either device doesn't
work or isn't properly recognized once inside Windows. Original poster
suggests it's the BIOS displaying message which at the least suggests BIOS
can tell some device (agreed likely a hub with multiple devices) is trying
to get more than the 500Ma spec demands.
