Use WLM Settings in Thunderbird?

Hi folks,

I was wondering if it's at all possible to export WLM's Settings for use in
Thunderbird on another computer?

I just had to reinstall Windows XP Pro, SP3 on my old PC (long story) and
I'm gradually reinstalling all my programs.
I was always curious to try Thunderbird as my default for email &
newsgroups, so I thought now would be a good time to experiment.

If this *is* possible, I would really like to import all my contacts,
folders, email messages and newsgroup posts from WLM,
but I would also like to continue using WLM as default for email &
newsgroups on this Win7 PC.

My gut feeling is that it's do-able, but I'd love to hear some
advice/comments/suggestions from anyone who actually knows!
Thanks in advance,
Neil ¦¬D

I don't use Tbird, preferring Outlook and WLM on all o/s(XP, Vista, Win7)
but this link might be of assistance.

It's doable, but no process is perfect. Depending upon how finicky you
are (and I am) you may be disappointed. I made a complete WLM—>Tbird
transition from my Desktop to my Laptop (my Desktop still has WLM).

For mail, I prefer IMAP so that transition is quite complete and easy. I
have one POP account and leave mail on server, so that was an easy
switch as well. The mail accounts I migrated one-by-one, entering
server/login info manually.

For contacts I use Google, and sync w/Tbird to my satisfaction. Storage
folders were transitioned by drag/drop, folder-by-folder (tedious but
effective).

WLM can only export 'settings' to an iaf file.
- in the strictest sense of definition - WLM settings = account settings
(but not not messages, not contacts, not calendar, not rules)
Whether or not TBird can import settings from an iaf file will have to be
answered by TBird users.
So far no one has chimed in stating that route is possible.

Have you considered asking this in a TBird forum ?

Hi Winston!

The logical thing *would've* been for me to check the Tbird Forum, but I
didn't think that far ahead. <g>

After considering all the
importing/exporting/copying/pasting/sorting/conflicts/time-spent/etc... I've
decided to simply do nothing!
If I *really* need to email from this older PC, I'll just use Gmail! This
way I don't have to pull out any more hair. <g>

Thanks again to you and all who offered some great advice!
