usenet problem

Not sure why but I get (often) very bad performance using NNTP with Windows
Mail (Windows Business)
Often I will click on a group or message and wait and wait....
After I while I get the msg that the server has not responded and I can stop
or wait.

This happens almost every time I use Usenet.
It is not isolated to the Microsoft group as I also get Usenet posts through
external-September.

I have used Usenet for 15 years and never had this problem till recently.
People who use the same ISP as me don't have this problem.
On occasion I can use it just fine so it is not a (personal) firewall issue.

Ideas?

With Linux that is about all the computer can do is post messages to
usenet. If you want to do real work, continue to use Windows.

Start -> Run -> cmd.exe -> tracert -d usenet.servername.here

Do you have a firewall or router filtering or blocking port 119 or
whatever port you use for NNTP? Have you tried free Xnews or Agent with
the same servers and what was the result?

This will help identify your problem.

Never said you can't use what you want. Have reading comprehension
problems again?

So don't ask MORONS any advice. What a MORON.

What makes you think I was thinking of you? Oh yea, I took a **** this
morning. You are right, I did think of you.

No. Wrong again as usual. I work and pay taxes. Probably more in
taxes than you make in a year.

Oops.

Tried Linux but it doesn't run the Microsoft apps I use. Oops.

I don't want to have anything to do with Linux.

Linux is easy to use if you want to read e-mail and generate nasty posts.

Jack:

I am using NNTP with no problems. There is a possibility that your SSL
setting may be interfering.
You may be able to find a solution by checking settings in Tools>Accounts
and then the Properties of your Usenet Server. Sometimes the error # will
give you a clue also.
Best of luck,

Harry.

A tracert to msnews.microsoft.com shows quite a lot of timeouts - out of my
control
No filtering or blocking of anything.
Example, it took seconds to d/l all the headers in this group. It took 40-60
seconds to d/l the single message body you sent in reply.

Was hoping not to have to install other SW in order to try and fix and the
tracert seems to indicate the problem is not SW related

Not using the SSL setting for usenet.
The error just says timed out waiting for the server to respond.

1. In >Tools>Options under 'General' do you have the option "Use newsgroup
Communities support features" checked? It should be.
2. The keywords in the message are: 'timed out' and 'waiting for the server
to respond'. That's where your irregularities are.
Check time out settings and/or with your service provider,
even though others are not effected.

No such option for me.

My settings are the same as I've used for 15 years port 119 no SSL no login
required.
In the 10 minutes since I opened windows mail and then "entered" this group
I have had the time out message on 2 posts and 2 posts which have d/l
instantly.
The problem is very intermittent.

Post a trace to either or both servers showing the time outs.
