user account keeps disappearing

when i set my wife's user account it disappears after a reboot or start up.
we lose all e-mails and acct info. when we reboot a msg pops up user account
login failed to load a temp account has been created and all changes will be
lost after logging .
out. how can i correct this... thanks in advance
