Im sure this question has already been answered but I cant see it.
Ive recently upgraded my Vista Basic Home to Vista Premium using the anytime
upgrade disc. When it had finished and the machine rebooted, the log on icon
on the welcome screen for the administrator had disapeared. Now I cant
control my own computer.
Can anyone tell me how I go about getting it back and please bear in mind
that I am a complete simpleton when it comes to computers so explanation in
very simple step by step terms would be very much apprciated.
Thanks very much.

Do you have any other accounts? There should be at least one administrator
account. An account can be an administrator without "administrator" being
the actual name of the account.

Hi Kerry
Yes I have two other accounts but they are showing as standard user.
When I go on control panel>user accounts>manage another account it shows the
administrator account but I obviously cant log on from there. I think this
means that the Administrator account is there but not visible on the welcome
screen so I cant get on it.

If there are no other administrator accounts you should be able to boot to
safe mode then the "administrator" account should be active. This will let
you change one of the other accounts to an administrator.

Ive booted in safe mode but it still only shows the standard user icons on
the welcome screen. Is it possible to log on to the administrator account in
another way other than on this welcome screen?

Do you have an xbox 360? There is a problem with the xbox 360 connector in
that it makes another administrator account that you can't access. This
fools Vista into thinking that there is an active administrator account. If
this is the case you'll have to phone Microsoft support for help. If you
don't have an xbox 360 then one of your existing accounts must be an
administrator. Have you tried all the accounts? Open Windows Explorer and
look under C:\Users. You will see a folder for each user. Write them down
then try logging on as each one.

Kerry,
No I dont have an xbox.
There is a file called 'administrator' under C:/users but no Admistrator log
on is shown on the welcome screen when you boot the pc up. It wont let me
open the administrator folder under windows explorer but I guess thats to be
expected. I cant even reinstall windows anytime because it says I have no
admistrator rights - this is getting very frustrating
