User diplay pics not accepting any file types

For weeks now, and quite randomly, my Messenger cleared out all of my custom
display pics and won't allow me to add any. Every time, it throws the error
of "File type not accepted" whether it's a .jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png, .tiff...
anything. It accepts nothing.

I haven't found any information on this error, whatsoever, online. This
problem is not only affecting me, but all of my coworkers as well. To
eliminate a firewall configuration issue as the culprit, I also have friends
outside of my workplace that are having the same problem. Seems to be some
kind of bug.

Thanks for any help!

Greetings,

This happens when the store of display pictures has gotten corrupted. Are you using the
latest version (8.1)? If not, the data store has been completely rewritten and may solve
this problem for you without having to manually delete it:

I am using 8.1.

Wouldn't a corruption be user specific and not a broad problem across
multiple users?

That's the issue we are having here -- this function stopped working for
multiple users seemingly at the same time, on the same day. One day, we
could change pictures and we had custom pictures stored, the next day
Messenger wouldn't recognize any file type (.gif, .jpg, etc.) and any
pictures, default or custom, are inaccessible.

We've all tried uninstalling and re-installing, to no avail.
