User login required after Windows Update

I just did the Windows upgrade (Jan.06) and also did a couple of .NET
upgrades with it that I've been putting off. Now suddenly I get a logon
screen when I boot up and after the screensaver comes on, where I have to
select a user account to log into. But I am the only user on this computer,
so there's only the one account available. I had previously just turned the
thing on and it automatically booted up to the only user account available,
which is mine (which is also the adminitrator account). Now it's making me do
this extra step of logging in. Is this from the .NET updates? Or from the
latest Windows update? More to the point: how do I change it back so that I
don't have to go through this extra step? Thanks.

I must agree the same thing happened to me after a recent .NET upgrade so it
was before this recent XP fix. I'd be interested to hear how to get beyond
requirement to login as I too am the only user.

Thanks for confirming where the change came from. I expect to have a
technical person do some work on my computer sometime next week and I'll ask
him about it. I'll try to remember to report the solution here...assuming I
find one!

The factual purpose for the dual log in "User" selection; "Safety" for your
protection! Enhancing online Security is just one of the many free things
Microsoft provides for users. Should you eliminate the Net User Account your
online safety decreases...your choice for the making. Self investigate the
factual purpose for the enhanced safety change that benefits only you!

Thanks for the explanation and the suggestion, Firewall. My tech guy came
today and he did as you suggested (deleting the extra account) and it works
fine now. If I was in a more open or multi-user environment, I might feel
differently about that extra step, but as it is, it is not really needed and
was just a nuisance. I have tons of protection through other means, so an
extra step (that I didn't even get a chance to approve or say "no thanks"
to), no matter how well intentioned, was unnecessary and unwanted. Thanks for
your reply though.
