Hi,

I recently purchased a laptop while overseas as it was a demo model got it
cheaper than normal too...and it was loaded up with Windows Vista, etc.

On returning to Australia I have found that the Store had input their Store
name into the computer.

I have changed the Computer name accordingly...but find that under C:\Users\
it still list the Store Name containing the usual folders.

How do I change this Store "User" name as straight forward rename of the
Folder will not work?

Any ideas?

Cheers

FG

Try Control Panel--User Accounts. Be sure you have admin rights then create
a new account for yourself. Login with that account and you can delete the
Store account.

John B: That's a solution for a problem the OP is not trying to solve.
Meanwhile, I want to point out this is not simply a Vista issue. I saw the
same thing on XP.
I had created a user, then changed the name of the user. The name change
worked, but the folders still bore the name of the original account that I
created. I don't recall it causing any problems, but it was a little
confusing.

Hi and you are absolutely correct...I had already done that...and although
the Notebook is now officially in my name...it still leaves a USER folder in
the name of the comp store.

As you state when doing searches, tagging, etc....this can cause
confusion...and quite frankly I don't want the Store's name as a "User"

So how do I "rename" a User folder directly under C:\Users from say "Currys"
to "Flash"

It will not give me the straight "Rename" option by the way.

Cheers

<snip>

You can't rename the folder. You need to create a new profile with the name
you want, copy the data and settings from the old to the new, test it to
make sure it works, then delete the old. To get to the dialog box where you
can copy from one profile to another right click Computer | Properties |
Advanced System Properties in the left pane | User Profiles - Settings.

This link which describes the process in XP is similar for Vista.
