A temp employee is using his personal laptop which has Vista Home Premium.
He logs on locally to the same user profile that he uses at home. I have
set up a domain user acct for him. When he connects to a server, he gets
the following error message:

"The referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on
to."

He is not given an opportunity to provide a name and password.

I would rather NOT make him create an account called HisUserName@mydomain
(with his domain password), and log on to his own laptop using it.

What must I do to get a name & password prompt to pop up when he connects to
a share on a domain server?

(As a workaround, I've mapped a network drive to a share on the server, and
configured it to connect as a "mydomain\HisUserName" and have entered his
password. That seems to not only connect him successfully to that share,
but it also enables him to connect to other shares on that server. But I
don't want to leave it like this.)

Thanks

I could be mistaken here but I believe only Vista Business and Ultimate
can log into a domain.

I could be mistaken here ALSO, but as I understand it, the machine can't log
on to the domain, but a user can at least access domain recourses by
including the domain in the user name ("mydomain\UserName", or
UserName@MyDomain). I believe that's the way it is with XP Home. And we
happen to have another user here with Vista Home who enters his domain name
and password when he connects to a share on a domain server (W2k Server).

Thanks

The footnote supports one point I was making. That a Vista Home machine can
NOT join a domain ("Domain Joining").

But Vista Home CAN acess a domain share if it provides a user's domain name
& password. That's why when I map a network drive using the user's
credentials, he can access the share.

My problem is that when the user tries to connect to a share, he is not
being prompted for those credentials, as does XP Home.

And Vista Enterprise, of course.
