User Profile Lost - Vista Ultimate

After checkdisk ran on startup I now find whenever I start up I am given a
Temporary User Profile. This machine is not on a domain, no roaming profile
applied and I have made no user permission changes (one or all of these seem
to be incorrectly assumed by every reference I find on the net).

I can get to User Profiles in Control Panel where I have entered my Home
Folder > Local path details but don't know what value to put in User Profile
> Profile Path.

Does anyone know where this is (or should be) located?

TIA,

Rob

Hi,

The is usually blank. If your profile is corrupted, you will need to create
a new one as they are generally not recoverable. Once created, you can take
ownership of and copy over data from your old profile before deleting it.

Thanks for confirmation Rick. I had another machine with Ultimate on in the
same room and it finally occurred to me (I'd had a late night) to compare
settings. You are of course correct, the registry holds the profile settings
(via the NTUSER.dat file).

I set up a new user, migrated my stuff across and have luckily had very few
problems with progs running as I want them to. Office needed a new user
confirmation and toolbars etc needed redoing.
I was surprised in my net search how common this appears to be with Vista -
lots of people tearing their hair out over it.
