I have admin rights to the profile im logged in with and this folder
was always visabe. Suddenly, it's gone, but not really. Allthe user
profiles are there and if I uncheck "hide system files" in the folder
options it appears. I dont want that option because other more
critical foldersappears when unchecked. Never had to do this but I've
been doing updates regularly from Windows Update. Maybe Microsoft
changed the settings in one of these recent updates? I have SP1
already and that did not affect it's visibility. Is there any setting
maybe I'm missing that would hide this folder other than checking
"hide system files"?

Hi Billy

You may have the user folders set to Hide by accident. Check wit
Option One in this tutorial to unhide them if this is the case

Hope this helps

Thanks, tried the recommendations, but still no good. The folder is
checked off as hidden, but is ghosted out so I cant change it. I tried
taking off "read only" from the users folder and to drill down to
subfolders and files and it went through and did this with some
exceptions that were not permissable. I then went back in and still
see the blue box for read only. It's unchecked identifiying that it
must be inherited from a parent folder, which is the C:\ drive - I
dont want to get to crazy changing this though. I'm not sure what I
did when I tried making the folder and files not read only
anyway.....even if it did not take effect as it appears. I still think
some new update applied new security settings on this - it wouldnt
suprise me considering how Vista is no overly pananoid-secure. I mean
it comes up with my user whom I'm logged in with as not having
permission to change a file/folder under my own \users directory for
the user im logged in with. I'm admistrator level, so hows that? Im
using Vista Home Premium but again im at Admin level. Anyway, i now
have to unhide all OS protected folders/files just to have my third
party backup program see the \users folders to back it up - annoying!

Billy

You can open a elevated command prompt. This tutorial will show you ho
to if needed

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66...and-prompt.htm

Then use the "attrib -s -h C:\(Full path of folder)" (no quotes) /d
(no quotes) command to see if you can unhide the user folders. This lin
will show you how to use the command more

'Vista's ATTRIB Command | ITsVISTA
(http://itsvista.com/2007/03/attrib/

For example, type

attrib -s -h c:\Users\username /

and press Ente
