I recently installed Windows Vista and created a second account
intended for use with VNC. Since I intend to connect to this computer
from a laptop with a lower resolution than the target computer, I
created a second user account, figuring that I'd just use that account
with VNC. Only problem: if I change the resolution on the VNC-
specific account, it also changes the resolution on the main account.

Windows XP has this issue - is there a particular reason that this
behavior was never changed in Vista?

Regardless, is there a third party tool that I can use to get around
this behavior? Thanks!

And VNC is? Virtual No Chance? Virtual Network Connection? V....? I'm not
computer illiterate, but I just have never heard of VNC. It does help to
spell things out.

VNC:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VNC

It's a competitor to Remote Desktop Connection, which has been
included with Windows since... I dunno... maybe XP?

Hi,

Resolution is a system-wide setting. Change it for one, you change it for
all. The third party tools I know of just allow for quickly changing between
the available settings, they don't allow for a per-user setting.

Why don't you try using Google when you're ill-prepared to discuss
something?

Why should I? You are the one who is ignorant. I asked the question and got
a response. VNC is NOT part of Vista, asshole. Grow up!

the new vnc protocol supports scaling

this means you can connect to a remote high resolution even if your
resolution is low

I just connected to a 1680x1050 machine and this laptop is running at
1024x760

try ultravnc www.unvc.com that has many features including scaling

if you need help with this, post back and ill fill you in.

By scaling, do you mean that it's resized to the resolution you're
using in the same way that Photoshop resizes images, or that if you
move your mouse to the edge of the screen, the screen will essentially
move with the mouse? If the latter... I dunno... I find that kinda
annoying. It reminds me of touchpads and I'm more of a pointing stick
kinda guy, heh.

or http://www.ultraVNC.com (win only)
or tightVNC ( multiple platforms )
all these VNC flavors use
the same VNC ( Virtual Network computing ) protocol.

On win platforms
VNC has advantage to MS remote desktop
that VNC server can run
also on XP / vista home editions.
