Hi All,
I want to make a disaster site(geographically apart) for my all vm's
running on win2k8 with Hyper-v role enabled.

Scenario--Having 2 node (protected and recovery). They are attached with non
shared storage on both sites and their VM's are stored on their respective
storage.

My constraints--

I don't want to use EMC mirror view or any other 3rd party s/w for data
mirroring/replication.

What i want---

I gone through Microsoft Data Protection Manager(DPM) utility for backup
VM's of windows virtual server 2005 R2 SP1.
Can i use this DPM for backing up of my VM's running on Hyper-v server and
restore them to a recovery site(geographically apart from protected site)?

if it is so,Please give me some ideas to how it will work?

This is the Failover Cluster forum, you need to post to
DataProtectionManager forum. I'll take a shot anyway.

If I understand, you have a Windows Server 2008 box with Hyper-V role
installed. You want to backup those VM's locally via DPM Server and then
have that same data replicated to an offsite DPM server via WAN link for
disaster recovery. I believe the DPM team refers to this as secondary
protection. The primary DPM server backs up the VM's by creating a replica
on the DPM server. The secondary DPM server protects that replica.

This should be possible. I would ensure that SP1 for DPM is installed and
latest Hyper-V rollup hot fix is installed on all Hyper-V hosts.

Q. Can DPM protect Microsoft Virtual Servers?
A. DPM 2007 includes support for host based backup of Windows Virtual
Server guests. Using a single host based DPM agent to provide application
consistent backups of any and all guests residing on a host. DPM can
protect any operating system or application via this mechanism as long as
they are running on a Windows host server.

An update is available for Windows Server 2008-based computers to address
issues with backing up and restoring Hyper-V virtual machines
