This is the Failover Cluster forum, you need to post to
DataProtectionManager forum. I'll take a shot anyway.
If I understand, you have a Windows Server 2008 box with Hyper-V role
installed. You want to backup those VM's locally via DPM Server and then
have that same data replicated to an offsite DPM server via WAN link for
disaster recovery. I believe the DPM team refers to this as secondary
protection. The primary DPM server backs up the VM's by creating a replica
on the DPM server. The secondary DPM server protects that replica.
This should be possible. I would ensure that SP1 for DPM is installed and
latest Hyper-V rollup hot fix is installed on all Hyper-V hosts.

Q. Can DPM protect Microsoft Virtual Servers?
A. DPM 2007 includes support for host based backup of Windows Virtual
Server guests. Using a single host based DPM agent to provide application
consistent backups of any and all guests residing on a host. DPM can
protect any operating system or application via this mechanism as long as
they are running on a Windows host server.
