I'm a novice here and don't want to get into a lot of stuff, but if I have a
graphic I want to use and it has a white square background, is there any way
I can remove the background so I can just use the graphic? I don't see that
ability in Paint, which is all I have, unless I just don't know what to look
for.

I believe what you are looking for is transparency. Paint does not have that
functionality in it

A popular FREE graphics program which can do it is IRFANVIEW, available at
their website: http://www.irfanview.com/
Instructions for using it to create transparency:
http://www.crosswinds-cadre.net/?page=trans_irfview

Also check out Paint.NET which effectively a free replacement for the MS
Paint software that comes with Windows. It is a powerful, simple and
pleasant tool for photo and image editing. From:

PS and copes with the full range from transparent to opaque.

Hi,

Just trying to help...

If that's the condition, little help can be provided, but if you are willing
to spend some efforts,

You can try some trial versions of commercial products, such as

Adobe products: http://www.adobe.com
Microsoft Expression Design:
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/...spx?key=design

If you are using the trial version of Expression Design, you can also go to
this MS newsgroup for your question:
microsoft.public.expression.graphicdesigner

For Adobe's trial versions, visit adobe forums for which you should be able
to find it from its site.

You could even post questions about free image programs if you like. I know
IrfanView is one commonly mentioned, but I don't know too well about its
capabilities.

For what I know, your task shouldn't be too difficult but it will be better
to ask the question based on the tool as you did for Paint, except I rarely
use Paint and it seems you couldn't find that ability in Paint as well.

Good luck.
