Hi

I'm all new to Vista and wondering - can I use PNG-files as icons without
any external programs installed?

Hi Andreas,

Sorry, PNG files will need to be converted to ICO files first. The
most common size in Vista is a 256 x 256 bit ICO file. You can use the
program "Axialis Icon Workshop" in a free fully functional 30 day trial
period. Read the first section under "Product Overview" for Windows
Vista to see how to use the program to create icons.

'Vista Icon Editor, XP Icon Editor, Macintosh Icon Editor, Windows
Icon - Axialis IconWorkshop™'

Actually a properly constructed icon file is multiple icons embedded in one ico file.
16x16
32x32
48x48
64x64
and so on.

Hi Steve,

True, Andreas you would want these sizes included when you convert the
PNG file to a ICO file for a better display with different view sizes
with the icon in Vista.

Thanks Steve,
Shawn
