all the Windows XP Pro (volume licence) PC on our LAN take a very long
time to start updating. as soon as I click 'express' the Update progress
window appears but it's at least 5 minutes before anything is seen in
this window.
sniffing the ethernet I can see that numerous attempts at a NAT
connection to Microsoft update servers are made all of which time out
because there is no NAT on our network. access is by HTTP proxy only.
so why is Windows Update not using the proxy server until 10 NAT
connections time out? I have it configured in Internet Options and
everything else uses the proxy fine.
TIA,
barf.
