I see that my 2011, build 15.4 doesn't include >>>>> when replying to
newsgroup messages. Without bashing the program, is there a fix? Thanks!

The fix is to use a real news reader.

Hi, JK.

A few of us are stubborn enough to keep using WLM 2011, despite its
shortcomings - and despite all the comments from those who choose a
different newsreader. I'm one of the stubborn ones. ;^}

Failure to properly quote prior messages is one of the most glaring defects
in WLM 2011. Winston has told us that the WLM development team saw the
problems with the quote function, but the fixes would have taken too long
for them to meet the deadline for the "Wave 4" rollout of all the WL
Essentials. So they just took out the quote function altogether! :>(

Bottom line is that if we use WLM 2011, we just have to live with its
defects. In my case, I use several techniques, depending on each thread.
Sometimes I bottom-post, after adding a line of hyphens (-----) to indicate
where my comments begin. More often, I'll just copy the line that I want to
reply to, then paste it into my comments, adding the ">" manually. I've
learned that I can quote an entire paragraph that way, adding a single ">"
before the first word of the quoted paragraph and removing line breaks in
the paragraph; WLM then reformats the quoted paragraph, adding a ">" before
each line. A little clumsy, but it works, like this:

> I see that my 2011, build 15.4 doesn't include >>>>> when replying to
> newsgroup messages. Without bashing the program, is there a fix? Thanks!

Another point is that I add an (invisible) extra space after the "-- " in my
Sig delimiter; this keeps WLM from deleting the quoted thread after my Sig.
At least, I think it works; it looks right when I read Replies to my
Replies - except when the later Replier edits it.

WLM 2011 is not so bad, I've tried others but it's still my
favorite ng+email program.

For quoting this is a temporary (hoping) solution.

Serious?

Damn MS fanbois.

Quoting properly is a basic function of a newsreader. WLM doesn't
quote properly. But, the fanbois still love it.

If Honda made a car that didn't go in reverse, no one would buy it.
People wouldn't say "Oh, it's great, with the exception of this little
problem."

Same as before.
Send Feedback /Suggestions
- https://feedback.live.com/?scrx=1
- http://microsoftcorp.suggestionbox.com/

Fyi...while doing that, do keep in mind the program's middle name
Windows 'Live' Mail
- WLM is first and foremost for use with other Windows 'Live' Essential
applications and Live services due to the integration (Contacts with
Messenger, Photo e-mail with Photo Gallery/SkyDrive, Hotmail using
DeltaSync, Calendar at calendar.live.com, Contacts at contacts.live.com) -
i.e. everything else is secondary, nntp on the other hand is way down the
list of priorties - if even on the list.) - Expecting change may very well
be fruitless if it doesn't impact 'Live' applications or services.

Sending feedback though is important for anything not present (e.g quoting
with '>' ) to be heard. Unfortunately, few send feedback, and lack of just
renders it further down the list or the circular file.
